At the CRIS Wellness Clinic, we recognize the unique mental health challenges faced by refugees as they adapt to life in a new country. Our clinic is dedicated to providing free, culturally-responsive care to the whole family.

For individuals and families encountering mental health for the first time, we offer a thoughtful approach that fosters mental health literacy, while destigmatizing mental health through collective experiences and strength-based interventions.

The CRIS Wellness Clinic does not offer crisis assistance. If you or someone you know is in need of immediate assistance, call, text, or chat 988 (additional details below).

Eligibility

For a client to be eligible for services through the CRIS Wellness Clinic, they must meet the following requirements:

Clinic Services

The CRIS Wellness Clinic offers wraparound services to all qualifying clients. These services include: brief therapy, family-strengthening services, case management, and wellness groups, all designed to promote healing, resilience, and successful adjustment to life in a new community.

  • Brief therapy focuses on resolving specific challenges and utilizing client strengths to increase hope and motivation. Brief therapy may be ideal for clients who:

    • May be facing immediate mental health concerns but do not have the time or resources for long-term therapy

    • Are on a waitlist for a mainstream provider and require bridging services

    • Would benefit from an introduction to mental health from a culturally-responsive approach

    • Are struggling to manage the challenges of resettlement and acculturation

Clients who are interested in longer-term outpatient therapy can continue with services through the Wellness Clinic or can be linked with a trusted outside provider by clinic staff.

  • Every family involved with CRIS Wellness Clinic participates in family-strengthening initiatives designed to help them create supportive and nurturing environments that promote healing, resilience, and adjustment. These initiatives include family therapy, parent education, and family-focused support services.

  • CRIS Wellness Clinic offers case management services to link clients with essential medical, mental health, and social services providers. Case managers may also provide support in linking clients with community resources such as food assistance programs, transportation services, ESL & employment-related services, childcare, and immigration legal services, depending on program capacity & availability of resources.

  • Our wellness groups offer diverse therapeutic approaches and community support to help newcomers build resilience and improve mental health. Focusing on refugee’s unique social determinants of health, we reduce stigma through education, creative activities, and social connection. Our safe, inclusive environment empowers participants to overcome challenges and thrive in their new life.

  • We honor culture.

We recognize, value, and engage culture in all aspects of our clinic.

  • We are dedicated to a client-first approach.

We place our client’s preferences and needs at the forefront.

  • We prioritize flexibility and accessibility.

We adapt our processes and services to reduce barriers.

  • We value holistic care.

We acknowledge that physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual aspects of health and wellbeing are interconnected.
