World Refugee Day Celebration 2013
Mark your calendars! Community Refugee and Immigration Services (CRIS) invites you to the third annual World Refugee Celebration this Saturday, June 29, 2013. Join us at the Columbus Humanities Arts and Technology Academy (1333 Morse Road, Columbus, OH 43229) from noon to 3pm. The event will feature live music and dance performances as well as artwork from the various refugee communities in central Ohio. World Refugee Day is a great opportunity to immerse yourself, your family, and friends, in the different cultures of Columbus’ refugee community, as well as hear stories from around the world. And did we mention food? There will be plenty of international food to go around, so bring your friends! Admission is free.World Refugee Day serves as a fun, educational, and eye-opening experience to all the different cultures Columbus encompasses. Central Ohio’s refugee communities have grown in the past few years. Over the years, CRIS has been working tirelessly to resettle refugees from Somalia, Bhutan, Burma, Iraq, and Eritrea, and many surrounding African countries. This Saturday serves as a celebration to honor the diversity and traditions of the member’s of Columbus’ refugee community.This year we are striving to make the celebration bigger and better than before, so if you have any art, ethnic cuisine, or performance ideas don’t hesitate to let us know. CRIS is always looking to include as many cultures as possible. World Refugee Day is a great opportunity to share your culture and story with others.World Refugee Day is celebrated around the world by civic groups and partners of the United Nations’ Refugee Agency, UNHCR every June. CRIS is an independent non-profit agency and the local affiliate of Church World Service and Episcopal Migration Ministries. Our mission is to help refugees and immigrants reach and sustain self-sufficiency and achieve successful integration into the Central Ohio community. CRIS offers a variety of services to this group of individuals including: employment preparation, acculturation, ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages), case management and legal services.We look forward to seeing you this Saturday at noon!
