Policy Update | Ukrainian Re-Parole

Written by: Vincent Wells, CRIS Immigration Attorney

In February, USCIS announced they will begin accepting and considering re-parole filings for qualifying Ukrainians. The re-parole process is the legal process of extending one’s current humanitarian parole period for additional time.

Who Qualifies for Ukrainian Re-Parole?

To be eligible for Ukrainian re-parole, you must demonstrate the following:

  • That you are a Ukrainian citizen or immediate family member who was paroled into the United States on or after February 11, 2022;

  • That there are continued urgent humanitarian reasons or significant public benefit for a new period of parole, as well as any additional factors;

  • That you warrant a favorable exercise of discretion;

  • That you are physically present in the United States;

  • That you have complied with the conditions of the initial parole; and

  • That you clear biographic and biometric background checks.

CRIS Legal Services is prepared to assist qualifying Ukrainians to file for re-parole through our monthly Ukrainian Legal Clinic—the third Tuesday of Every Month from 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM (see more information here). We encourage qualifying Ukrainians to come to our Ukrainian Legal Clinic 90 days before their current parole period expires. Individuals whose parole expires beyond 90 days will be advised to return to our clinic closer to their parole expiration date.

What Should I Bring to the CRIS Ukrainian Legal Clinic if I Want to Apply for Re-Parole?

If you would like legal assistance from our Legal Services team, we advise you to bring the following documents for each person who wishes to apply for Ukrainian Re-Parole:

·       I-94

·       Work Authorization Card

·       Most Recent “Notice of Action” Letter from Medicaid or SNAP
